Just a reminder that students should be reading at least 20 minutes every night. Reading logs went home on Oct. 3. Logs need to be completed every week night and returned to school each day. Students should read and complete one entry each weekend. Parents/Guardians please sign the reading log at the end of each week. Thanks for you cooperation in making your child's second grade experience great!

We did a book study comparing and contrasting the stories Rechenka's Eggs and Chicken Sunday by Patricia Pollaco. We talked about character's point of view and story structure. As a follow-up acitvity the class made mystery eggs.
Budding authors wrote poems and shared them with the class.

Changing Earth
We make observations to learn more about Earth each day. Earth looks different now than how it looked 50 years ago. We can observe changes to different land forms by carefully recording data over time.
Pouring water over a sugar mountain simulates the effects of rain and river flow on the mountain. Rubbing sandpaper on the sugar mountain simulates the effect of wind on the rock. Students use chalk as a model of how land changes slowly. (Click on pic to enlarge)
