Studying Matter
Investigating Force and Motion~ Students observed the result of applying force on an object, pushing and pulling, and how friction, gravity, and inertia effect motion.
Working as serious scientists, students have been observing the properties of matter, measuring mass, and observing the 3 states of matter and how they change.
Measuring Mass
|
Making guesses and testing theories, students learned that different objects have different weights (mass), and looks can be deceiving. Even though a marble and cotton ball are the same size, they have a dramatically different mass. We also learned that a nickel weighs exactly 5 grams

Fall English~Language Arts Activities
Students practice reading and comprehension through
genre study, and practice weekly skills at learning centers. Completing story maps, vocabulary practice using dictionary word work, and understanding the literal and figurative meanings of Idioms were some this weeks center activites. |
Empowered WritersOur focus in writing has been "Good Beginnings" and "Elaborative Detail". We took an Autumn Walk to experience autumn using all our senses. Students then wrote elaborative detail segments using the information gathered on our walk.
I marveled at the assortment of brown, curly leaves fluttering down. ~Tommy
The countryside was dotted with cloud white seagulls on the dark green grass of the soccer field.~Lauren I took a deep breath and felt snowy, autumn air trying to push me into a pile of burnt orange leaves.~Catherine I marveled at the burnt orange leaves drifting from the dark brown leaves.~Ben As I walked yellowish orange leaves crackled in the wind.~Matthew The crisp autumn air gently blew cooly across my face as I slowly strolled along through the fall countryside.~Joseph The countryside was covered in red velvet speckled leaves. Some trees were naked, not a leaf in site.~Malana Off in the distance I heard squirrels hopping like rabbits from tree to tree.~Madison The autumn air was as chilly as snow and ice making goosebumps pop up on my skin.~Asha |
