INVENTION CONVENTION held on May 31st.
A great day for a concert! After many months of practice, the class was proud to show off their talent playing their recorders. The private concert included Ode To Joy, Twinkle Twinkle, and Old McDonald. They performed as a group, trios, duets, and solos. A few boys even volunteered to sing!
BOOK CLUBS
During Reader's Workshop, BOOK CLUBS meet daily. Each group is reading a different novel. Each day they read a chapter or two and respond to the reading. Responses include identifying story elements, summarizing events, making text-to-text connections, text-to-self connections, word wizard work, and illustrating. Upon completion, students must give an oral summary of the book, including how the problem in the story was resolved and whether they would recommend this book to their classmates or not. Some of the books that have been read include: Dear Mr. Henshaw, Bunnicula, How to Eat Fried Worms, The BFG, Ella Enchanted, The Girl With 500 Middle Names, and Skinnybones.
